Hello dear readers, family and friends!
I hope you had an amazing summer!
Wanted to tell you about a short and special concert I’m playing this Thursday, September 29th, 6 pm at the Salmugundi Club located at 47 5th Ave, New York, NY 10003.
Pianist Miles Walter and I will be playing the epic Cesar Franck’s Violin Sonata for violin and piano, a piece that is near and dear to my heart. The Franck Sonata is one of the highlights of the violin/piano Romantic literature. It uses cyclical themes and phrases that appear in each of the four movements giving the listener familiarity and a feeling of musical emphasis. Aside from its harmonic complexity and soaring moments of sublime beauty, the Sonata brings the performer and the listener on a rapturous and imaginative visual journey. Continuous tonal shifts bring to mind rich color palettes and grand variety of musical articulations are akin brush stroke techniques seen in the early Impressionist paintings of that time. Historically, the Sonata made its premiere at the Musee Moderne de Peinture (Museum of Modern Painting) in Brussels, Belgium in 1886.
The concert program is only 30 minutes long, a perfect way to begin your night out on the town and the entire event is presented by the Brooklyn Book Festival. A mixture of music, readings, philosophy and poetry will ensue throughout the evening.
Tickets are $15 but if you are hungry/thirsty you can stay for a three course meal with the total being $65 for the readings, concert and dinner.
Here is a link to the event and I hope you can join us!
Love,
Aud
